Dental ImplantTooth loss is never a good thing. But the silver lining is that there have never been more options available for cosmetic improvements and dental restorations to correct partial or full tooth loss. Dental implants, which are unique in the fact that they replace both the root and the crown of a missing tooth, are the dental restoration that most closely resembles the structure and function of a natural tooth. In our Sacramento and Folsom, CA, offices, Dr. Julianne Digiorno and Dr. Anthony Digiorno offer a range of cosmetic and general dentistry services for both children and adults.

Improve Your Smile and Oral Health with Dental Implants

Most people don't really give much thought to what happens above the gum line. Unless you have an especially "gummy" smile, no one even sees your gums when you speak or smile, and the teeth do all of the work involved in speaking, eating, and smiling for selfies right? Yes and no. When a tooth falls out or gets extracted, a vacuum effect is essentially created in the gums, which causes the supportive bone tissue to erode. Bone loss is one of the main factors in periodontal disease and can affect the stability of the surrounding teeth and increase the risk of additional oral health problems and infection.

Implants address this problem by replacing the root of a missing tooth, which helps to generate the growth of new healthy bone tissue and to prevent further bone loss. This happens through a process known as osseointegration, where the implant fuses with the surrounding bone tissue. Once the implant has been anchored in place, the cosmetic crown is attached to complete the restoration. Implants can replace a single tooth, or secure an entire set of dentures on the upper and lower jaw.

In order to qualify, you must be a healthy adult and have enough remaining bone density in the gums to support the implant. A commitment to consistent oral hygiene and follow up dental care is also necessary to minimize the risk of complications. With proper care, dental implants have a very high success rate.

Dental CrownHow dental crowns from your dentists can help your smile

Everyday wear-and-tear, bad habits like chewing on ice cubes, and getting older can all wreak havoc on your smile. So how do you keep your teeth strong? The answer is dental crowns! Dental crowns give you a strong, and beautiful smile which you can enjoy for years. Dr. Anthony Digiorno and Dr. Julianne Digiorno at DiGiorno Dental Fitness want to share the facts about dental crowns and how they strengthen damaged teeth. They have two convenient office locations in Folsom, and Sacramento, California to help your smile.

Dental crowns are different than a large filling. A dental crown covers the entire visible part of your tooth above the gumline. A dental crown spreads the chewing force out evenly over the entire surface of your tooth, resisting breakage.

Dental crowns are an excellent option to restore badly damaged teeth. If you have a severely damaged tooth, you may be wondering if it can be repaired. The truth is a dental crown can repair even a severely damaged tooth. Dr. Digiorno may need to place a metal post in your tooth and build an amalgam overlay around the tooth. This post-and-build-up treatment gives the crown a foundation to attach to.

You can choose from several options for your crown material. The most popular material is pure porcelain. It’s popular because it reflects light and looks just like natural tooth enamel. When you choose a pure porcelain crown, you can be sure it will blend seamlessly with your smile.

Another crown option is a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown, known as a PFM crown, which combines the strength of metal with the beauty of porcelain. The PFM crown isn’t as lifelike as pure porcelain because of the metal underlay. A PFM crown can’t reflect light like pure porcelain.

You can have a strong, beautiful smile, thanks to dental crowns! To find out more about dental crowns and additional restorative, cosmetic, and preventive dental services call Drs. Julianne and Anthony Digiorno at DiGiorno Dental Fitness, with offices in Folsom, and Sacramento, California. Call now!

BaseballsFranciscoLindorShinesasMrSmile

At the first-ever Players Weekend in August 2017, Major League Baseball players wore jerseys with their nicknames on the back. One player — Cleveland Indians shortstop, Francisco Lindor — picked the perfect moniker to express his cheerful, fun-loving nature: “Mr. Smile.” And Lindor gave fans plenty to smile about when he belted a 2-run homer into the stands while wearing his new jersey!

Lindor has explained that he believes smiling is an important part of connecting with fans and teammates alike: “I’ve never been a fan of the guy that makes a great play and then acts like he’s done it 10,000 times — smile, man! We’ve got to enjoy the game.”

We think Lindor is right: Smiling is a great way to generate good will. And it feels great too… as long as you have a smile that’s healthy, and that looks as good as you want it to. But what if you don’t? Here are some things we can do at the dental office to help you enjoy smiling again:

Routine Professional Cleanings & Exams. This is a great place to start on the road toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Even if you are conscientious about brushing and flossing at home, you won’t be able to remove all of the disease-causing dental plaque that can hide beneath the gum line, especially if it has hardened into tartar, but we can do it easily in the office. Then, after a thorough dental exam, we can identify any problems that may be affecting your ability to smile freely, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or cosmetic dental issues.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments. If your oral health is good but your smile is not as bright as you’d like it to be, we can discuss a number of cosmetic dental treatments that can help. These range from conservative procedures such as professional teeth whitening and bonding to more dramatic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.

Tooth Replacement. Many people hide their smiles because they are embarrassed by a gap from a missing tooth. That’s a shame, because there are several excellent tooth-replacement options in a variety of price ranges. These include partial and full dentures, bridgework, and dental implants. So don’t let a missing tooth stop you from being Mr. (or Ms.) Smile!

GetABetterSmileforValentinesDay

The most romantic holiday of the year, Valentine’s Day is celebrated each February 14th. It’s a time when many look forward to giving (and receiving) cards, flowers, and other tokens of love. On special days like this, it’s natural to want to look your best—and many surveys rank a person’s smile as his or her most noticeable (and appealing) physical feature. But what if you are unsatisfied with your smile?

Don’t worry! Today, cosmetic dentistry can resolve smile problems as never before. Here are some popular and effective dental treatments that can quickly brighten up your smile.

Tooth Whitening
In just one visit, dull or stained teeth can often be lightened by up to 10 shades! How? We use special bleaching solutions that are applied safely, under our careful supervision, in the dental office. You can’t use these concentrated solutions at home. But if you‘re not in a rush, we can prepare custom-made take-home bleaching trays and whiteners that are safe for home use. The same results can be achieved, but the process may take weeks instead of hours. After months or years, depending on lifestyle factors (like whether you smoke or drink coffee, red wine, etc.) your teeth can have whitening treatment again.

Cosmetic Bonding
Small chips, cracks, or other minor irregularities can be quite noticeable in an otherwise flawless smile. Fortunately, these problems can often be resolved with a treatment called cosmetic bonding. In a relatively simple in-office procedure, we can apply tooth-colored bonding material to restore teeth to better appearance. Layers of high-tech bonding material are built up and cured with a special light to form a tough, natural-looking tooth surface. Bonding isn’t as long-lasting as some other types of restoration, like veneers or crowns, but it’s an easy and inexpensive way to resolve some smile problems.

Professional In-Office Cleaning
Remember that feeling you get after your regular checkup? Your mouth feels squeaky-clean, your breath is fresh and you’re ready to show that sparkly smile. So why wait until your next routine appointment? You can schedule a hygiene visit any time. We will remove plaque from your teeth, check your gums for signs of periodontal (gum) disease, and make sure you’re on track for good oral health. If any problems are found, we’ll take care of them right away. And if you have questions about cosmetic procedures, it’s the perfect time to ask. A professional cleaning can help your smile look (and feel) great.

Some patients believe that getting a gorgeous Hollywood smile is simply not within their reach. But the truth is that veneers have become a veneersvery common treatment in the everyday world that helps patients achieve that goal. After visiting your dentist at Digiorno Dental Fitness in Folsom and Sacramento, CA, for a checkup you might learn that you are an ideal candidate for veneers.

Veneers Will Make You Smile
Unfortunately, many people choose to spend many years hiding their teeth because of dental imperfections including chips, cracks, stains, and smile gaps. It's hard to smile or laugh with confidence around others if you’re constantly worrying about how your teeth look. When you have veneers, there's no need for concern because each tooth is covered with a smooth porcelain covering that's beautifully contoured and colored. With veneers, you'll feel more comfortable smiling around friends and strangers.

Deciding if You're a Good Candidate
If your teeth are in overall good condition, meaning that your mouth is free from dental and gum disease, it's likely that you'll be a candidate for veneers. You wouldn't want to bond a dental device to a tooth that is unhealthy and in need of treatment. Your Folsom and Sacramento, CA, dentist will perform a thorough dental examination, including X-rays to ensure that each tooth is healthy enough to support a veneer.

Veneers Don't Take Long to Install
Compared to other treatments aimed at bettering the appearance of your teeth, veneers don't take very long to install. The average treatment time is about a few weeks. When you consider that braces can take many months or years, veneers are the best choice if you want your new smile in time for an upcoming event.

Improve Your Smile with Veneers
You should feel as if you have your best smile possible while navigating your social life and professional career. Contact Digiorno Dental Fitness in Folsom and Sacramento, CA, to find out if veneers will help you achieve that goal. Call (916) 81-SMILE for our Folsom office or (916) 486-8525 for our Sacramento office to schedule a dentist appointment with Drs. Anthony and Julianne Digiorno.
